## Prompt for your AI

```
Act as a checkout list reviewer for an Airbnb host. Airbnb's own pages (checked Oct 16, 2026) say:
- Common checkout tasks: gather used towels, throw trash away, turn things off, lock up, return keys. Small home-specific asks like covering the grill are fine.
- Guests expect an easy checkout without cleaning tasks. Cleaning fees cover standard cleaning (laundry, vacuuming).
- Hosts may not charge guest fees for failing to do specific cleaning or checkout tasks.
- Guests can report "excessive checkout tasks".
For each line of my list, label it:
- CUT: stripping beds, laundry, making beds, folding linens, washing dishes, vacuuming or mopping, wiping surfaces, cleaning the bathroom, or any fee or fine for skipped chores.
- SOFTEN: running or unloading the dishwasher, emptying the fridge, hauling trash outside, cleaning the grill, moving furniture back, "spotless" or "leave it as you found it".
- FINE: the five common tasks above.
Give a one-line reason and a friendly rewrite for each CUT or SOFTEN line. Then give a trimmed list and a short guest note. Plain words. Not legal advice.
My checkout list:
Strip all beds and start a load of laundry
Lock the door and return keys to the lockbox
Check: with that list, line 1 is CUT and line 2 is FINE.
## FAQ
**Can I charge a fee if a guest skips checkout chores?** No. Airbnb's ground rules for guests (help article 2894) say hosts may not charge guest fees for failing to do specific cleaning or checkout tasks.
**What checkout tasks does Airbnb consider normal?** Airbnb's checkout guide lists gather used towels, throw trash away, turn things off, lock up, and return keys, plus small home-specific asks like covering the grill.
**Can guests report my checkout list?** Yes. Guests can report excessive checkout tasks, and Airbnb says listings with repeated low ratings from unreasonable tasks may be removed.
## Status labels
Each line in `lines` gets a `status`:
- **cut**: chore goes past Airbnb simple checkout asks. Remove it.
- **soften**: fine idea, but phrase it as optional. A rewrite is given.
- **ok**: matches an Airbnb simple ask (towels, trash, turn things off, lock up, return keys).
- **info**: no chore found, for example a checkout time or a thank-you. Kept as is in `suggested_list`. Called `other` before v1.3.0; `legacy_counts.other` still carries that count.
Verdicts: **trim needed** (at least one cut), **light touch-ups** (no cuts, at least one soften), **looks reasonable** (none). Score starts at 100, minus 20 per cut and 8 per soften. The response also includes `status_labels` and `verdict_labels`.
## Rules
- **CUT: Fee or fine for skipped chores.** Airbnb says hosts may not charge guest fees for failing to do specific cleaning or checkout tasks.
- **CUT: Strip the beds.** Linen changes are standard turnover cleaning, which Airbnb says the cleaning fee covers.
- **CUT: Start or run laundry.** Airbnb names laundry as part of the standard cleaning the cleaning fee covers. Try: "Please leave used towels in the tub or by the washer."
- **CUT: Make the beds.** Beds get reset at turnover, so this is a cleaning task.
- **CUT: Fold towels or blankets.** Folding linens is housekeeping work, not a checkout task.
- **CUT: Wash or dry dishes.** Washing dishes by hand is a cleaning task. A gentler ask is fine. Try: "Please load used dishes into the dishwasher or leave them in the sink."
- **SOFTEN: Run or unload the dishwasher.** Starting a full dishwasher is a light ask. Unloading it or putting dishes away is cleaner work. Try: "If the dishwasher is full, feel free to start it on your way out."
- **CUT: Vacuum, sweep, or mop.** Airbnb names vacuuming as part of the standard cleaning the cleaning fee covers.
- **CUT: Wipe or sanitize surfaces.** Wiping and sanitizing is turnover cleaning.
- **CUT: Clean bathroom, toilet, or shower.** Bathroom cleaning is turnover cleaning.
- **SOFTEN: Empty or clean the fridge.** Cleaning the fridge is cleaner work. Asking guests to take or toss their own open food is a light ask. Try: "Please take or toss any open food you brought."
- **SOFTEN: Haul trash to outside bins or curb.** Throwing trash away is one of Airbnb's common checkout tasks. A long trip outside can feel like a chore, so keep it short and clear. Try: "Please put trash in the bins by the back door. Thank you!"
- **SOFTEN: Clean the grill.** Airbnb gives covering the grill as a fine home-specific ask. Scrubbing it is more than that. Try: "If you used the grill, please turn off the gas and put the cover back on."
- **SOFTEN: Move furniture back.** A light reset is fine if you keep it optional. Try: "If you moved any furniture, a quick nudge back is appreciated."
- **SOFTEN: Spotless or deep clean language.** Airbnb says guests expect a checkout without cleaning tasks. Guests only need to avoid leaving a mess that needs excessive or deep cleaning. Try: "Please leave the home free of any big messes. Our cleaners will take care of the rest."
